What is Somatics (not to be confused with Psychosomatics)?
Somatics is "the art and science of the process of the interconnection between awareness, biological function, and the environment, where all three factors are understood as a synergistic whole." — Thomas Hanna
Soma refers to the living body, an experience from the first-person perspective, the "I" capable of sensing and perceiving itself.
Somatic Education is a branch of somatics that brings together various disciplines related to the process of educating the living body (soma) based on its capacity for awareness through movement in its environment.
Examples of somatic education include approaches such as the Alexander Technique, the Feldenkrais Method, Thomas Hanna's Somatics, the Rosen Method, Rolfing, Body-Mind Centering, and many more.
