Dear friends, I’m happy to invite you to the regular somatic workshop where we’ll explore how to release tension in the spine through soft, mindful movements.

‏Gently reconnect with your body, relax your nervous system, and gain mobility.  This is a great opportunity to try the Feldenkrais Method and Hanna Somatics — no experience needed.

Sometimes I think the body behaves like a teenager.

You feel like you know it inside out — yet it still surprises you. One moment it’s sulking, another it’s shutting down and refusing to "talk." It aches, then goes silent, then suddenly throws a tantrum somewhere in your lower back.

And in those moments, you might feel like saying: “Hey body, come on! Get it together! We’ve got things to do — work, errands — and you want to lie down and sleep?” You wish it would just cooperate, like it used to.

But experience — and body-oriented therapy — teaches a different response.

Imagine your teenager is going through a rough time. Moody, snappy, pushing away your hugs… and yet craving them. What do they actually need? A calm adult nearby, someone who says — not with words, but presence — “I’m here. I see you. I’m not afraid of your pain. I won’t turn away or walk out.” It’s the same with the body. If it’s acting up, don’t yell at it in your head: “You’re letting me down!” Try something else instead: “You seem tired. Let’s rest for a bit.”

Sometimes self-care isn’t just about baths and massages. It’s not just what we do, but how we do it. You can gently ask, “What’s going on, my dear back? What would help you today?” Or patiently offer: “I’ll just be here with you. No demands. No pressure.” The body feels that. And like a teenager, it begins to soften. Trust grows. Connection returns. And with that, energy does too. If your inner teenager is grumbling — that’s okay. We’re not here for perfection, but for relationship. A relationship with your own body.

To cultivate this kind of relationship — I offer weekly online somatic classes. It’s a time and space where you can dedicate just one hour a week to yourself, with care, attention, and kindness. And over time, this quality of presence begins to ripple into your everyday life and into how you relate to yourself.

A new course begins on Monday, September 8, and will focus on the breath — one of the deepest and most essential resources we have. We’ll explore how to soften, expand, and reconnect to breathing with gentle movement and awareness.

Hannah's Somatics

WHAT IS
SOMATICS?

Somatics is an approach to human development and learning through movement. Somatic sessions are based on principles of biomechanics, neurology, and neuroplasticity, the brain's ability to change as a result of experience. Using strategies of neuromuscular retraining, somatics helps individuals develop body awareness, improve posture, flexibility, and coordination, enhance athletic and artistic abilities, and support those dealing with stress, trauma, limited mobility, chronic pain, and muscle tension. The practice of body awareness is offered in both group and individual lesson formats.

Qualities of Doctor Katya as a Body Therapist

  1. Professionalism. Her extensive knowledge helps me to see not only my issue but also how it fits into the broader context of my life. She treats me as a whole person, not just a problem to solve.

  2. Warm-heartedness. Her love and respect for the body and life itself fill her work with heartfelt warmth and compassionate attention. Everything that happens in therapy, Doctor genuinely processes. Her reactions are those of someone who truly cares—someone who looks at you attentively, sees you, understands you, and helps you.

  3. Intelligent, thoughtful specialist. A strong education, broad expertise, and years of experience allow Doctor Katya to successfully handle complex cases like mine.

  4. Persistence and determination. She is unwavering in her support, especially when the case is difficult and both I—and she—feel stuck, seeing no movement, no results, no improvement. Doctor Katya doesn’t retreat. She continues working, trying various approaches and techniques until a breakthrough occurs—until progress begins, which wouldn’t have happened without her steadfast belief that healing would come.

  5. Therapeutic support as a core practice. Doctor Katya shapes psychotherapy as a nurturing, supportive process. Her support becomes the channel through which I receive help.

I came to EA reporting that I couldn’t feel my body. I had no idea what was happening inside it, apart from pain. I had no energy to live. I didn’t love myself or my body. And more...

Nothing changed for a long time. Every week EA asked me the same question: “What do you feel in your body right now?” And I would answer: “Nothing.” We slowly worked through psychological issues and simultaneously did small exercises from her somatic approach. Still nothing changed—but I never wanted to stop therapy. I felt supported and seen. In my desert of despair, this therapist understood and supported me. That became invaluable.

Changes happened after about 1.5 years. My relationship with myself shifted. I became more aware of what was happening in my body. I began noticing how different emotions register physically; how “food” can taste different; how overeating feels and how I can catch the moment of fullness; I even began to accept myself—my own body no longer caused disgust; I started enjoying gentle somatic practices and felt pleasure in doing them.

What I liked most, though, was EA herself. I felt what a wonderful professional she is and how lucky I was to work with her. I feel gratitude, and I can even point to where in my body I feel her presence.

In August, I was lucky enough to attend a personal somatics session with Katya Zilberstein. I came to her early in the morning, sleep-deprived, nervous, excited. But after the first minutes of class, I completely calmed down and relaxed. In 2018-2019, I went to Katya for group classes on somatics. I really liked them. But an individual meeting is a completely different experience. This is something incredible! This is probably how the first man felt when God sculpted him. You lie on the couch, her hands gently take you by the arms and legs and begin to move you. No, they are not moving you. You are moved by her hands. And you surrender to the power of this gentle, but at the same time incredibly firm and confident force. And you know that everything that was broken in your body will be repaired. Everything that was tight will relax. And life will appear in you again... After the class I felt like a jelly). But I was a very confident and strong jelly). Jelly, in which life appeared, thanks to Katya. Thank you!

I took several courses on somatics with Katya. The topics were different, but the result was the same: a feeling of a more harmonious body. Pain in my back, neck, and head bother me much less, I began to fall asleep faster, and learned to relax better. I like the classes themselves and the feeling after. Surprisingly, small, very small movements without tension or effort greatly help improve the quality of life. And each lesson is an hour of attention to yourself, turning your gaze inward. As a bonus, all participants in group classes have clear, calm eyes after

What to Expect from lessons?

Somatic Experiencing is a gentle and non-invasive approach, so there’s no need to relive traumatic memories. Instead, the focus is on your body’s present experience. Sessions are paced to ensure you feel safe and in control throughout. You may feel subtle physical or emotional changes, such as a sense of lightness, release, or calm. It’s common to feel more connected to yourself and your body after each session.
