Temporomandibular joint

Somatic practice 24/11/2019, 17:00 - 20:00

Address: Moscow School of Yoga, 19/37 B. Serpukhovskaya St., building 4

somatics with Katya Zilberstein

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is constantly in use—when we talk, eat, walk, smile, and more. Even during sleep, the TMJ muscles often don’t get a break. Many people are unaware that their lower jaw is tense. This can manifest in various ways: pain in the temples, headaches, toothaches without dental issues, teeth grinding at night, earaches, or ringing in the ears. These are symptoms of TMJ dysfunction (TMD).

What Can We Do to Thank Our TMJ for Its Service?

How can we ensure its smooth function in the future?

At this somatic workshop, you’ll learn a set of exercises based on the somatic teaching methods of Moshe Feldenkrais and Thomas Hanna. These exercises aim to retrain the nervous system that controls the TMJ, reducing sensory-motor amnesia. This retraining relaxes chronically tense muscles and creates new, more functional movement patterns.

The lessons will be recorded and shared with participants, so you can continue practicing at home.
